This fall, join local printmaker Mary Rhinelander for a six-week studio course on block printing. This customized course for adults offers the opportunity to create artwork surrounded by the work of the Folly Cove Designers. The course will be tailored for both students with no experience in block printing and for returning students looking for a deeper dive.

Inspired by Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios’ teaching model, students will choose and explore a single motif from nature, using scale and pattern. Students will then sketch a design, carve on linoleum blocks, and print an original work to take home. As a new addition this year, students will have the opportunity to print on an original Folly Cove press used by Mary Maletksos (1918-1993).  The press was donated to the Museum by Montserrat College of Art for use in the CAM Studio.

Rhinelander studied printmaking at Harvard and The Art Students League in NYC. She received an MFA from the SMFA in Boston and is delighted to help keep the passions of the Folly Cove Designers alive on Cape Ann.
