Enjoy free admission to the Cape Ann Museum every First Friday during Art After Hours from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Each month, CAM will partner with a practicing, contemporary artist to interpret the Museum’s collections. This June, experience the galleries through the words of local poet, educator, and activist Caroline Harvey.
Passionate about telling stories of creative survival, Caroline has been touring internationally as a poet, educator, and activist for over 15 years. Since 2017, Caroline has been creatively focused on their local community here on Cape Ann where they are a co-owner of Dogtown Books. Their work has been commissioned by The Cape Ann Museum, The Essex County Community Foundation, and Harborlight Community Partners, and they served on the Board of The Gloucester Writers Center.
In November 2014, Caroline was a Keynote Speaker and Performing Artist at The World Parks Congress in Sydney, AU, and in 2013 was awarded The Steelgrass Artists Residency in Kauai. Caroline was nominated for the 2013 Best Poets Award and a 2012 Pushcart Prize, and in 2011 Caroline was commissioned by the US Embassy in Serbia to perform original work & lead workshops about free speech for the first generation of youth to grow up post-Milosevic. In addition to their 10+ years at Berklee College of Music, Caroline has held teaching residencies and provided educational programming at The Esalen Institute, Urban Word NYC, National Poetry Slam, Inc., Emerson College, Youth Speaks, UCLA, UC Berkeley, and was featured on season five of HBO’s Def Poetry.
