6 weeks from November 2 – December 14, 2023

CAM Green, 13 Poplar Street, Gloucester, MA
$260 for CAM Members, $295 for non-members

In this six-week course, students will learn the mechanics of drawing from life while working directly from pieces in the Cape Ann Museum’s sculpture collection. Lessons will emphasize the importance of structure, seeing, and understanding how light and form interact.  The course will include instruction, demonstrations, and of course drawing! Students will make both shorter sketches and longer finished drawings and will be encouraged to apply the concepts they learn to their work.

Classes will be led by artist and Cape Ann Museum Assistant Curator Leon Doucette. Leon was born in Gloucester and is a graduate of the New Hampshire Institute of Art. He has served on the Cape Ann Museum’s curatorial staff since 2011 and is a practicing artist, working in both oil paint and charcoal. He has exhibited throughout New England, as well as in New York, California, and Washington D.C. He is a recipient of the First Place Drawing award at the Portrait Society of America's Annual International Portrait Competition and is a Guild of Boston Artists Gold Medalist.

Students of all drawing levels (from beginner to advanced) are encouraged to attend. One-on-one discussions will be tailored to students’ skill levels.
